My Beauty Journey by Hailey Thomas
For as long as I can remember I have always lived by the phrase “when you look good, you feel good.” I first started wearing makeup when I was 13 years old. Unfortunately, I was stuck in the teal eyeliner and orange foundation phase. It wasn’t just about the looks though, I genuinely enjoyed taking the time to get myself ready. Those measly 10 minutes allowed me to clear my mind, gather my thoughts, and just focus on myself. I considered that as my “me” time. I loved this feeling so much, that I wanted to share the experience with others. I discovered Youtube as an outlet to share these moments with people from all over the world. Every Wednesday I would film a video showing my tips and tricks on how to apply makeup. The more views I gained, the more I loved creating the videos. Unfortunately, I was at the age where bullying and teasing were common at school, so I deleted my Youtube channel out of embarrassment. For years I lived in regret because I knew I could never get my account back.
Although I had lost touch with my social media platform. My love for makeup only grew. As I continued to find myself throughout middle school and high school, makeup was always there. The every now and then pimple, or minor blemish. Makeup was my secret weapon, there to give me that much-needed confidence boost.
I found myself keeping up with the most popular celebrities and what new techniques they were showing off. ( I still find myself doing this) As Instagram became a more popular platform my need for staying on point with the trends skyrocketed. It was just that much easier to know that the gold eyeshadow look was out and the smokey eye was new the thing to do. Trends continuously change, but having that easy access made my life a lot easier.
Fast forward 10 years, I am now employed at my dream job, Doll 10. Every day I am surrounded by something I am passionate about, and work with empowered women who empower women. Every day I come in excited to do my job. A hobby that I had when I was 13 years old is now my career and I couldn’t be more blessed. I can only hope that the videos I make now will inspire a young girl to make her own youtube videos. Find her own self and not worry about the judgment that could come along… because here I am living THAT dream.
